1. Who we are
Baseline Social Basketball League ("Baseline", "we", "us") is a social basketball league being set up in Sydney, Australia. Baseline is operated by Sean Chen as a sole trader. We are the entity responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. As a small business we may not currently be legally bound by that Act, but we have chosen to follow it anyway.
2. What we collect
When you register your interest, we ask for:
- Your name — so we can address you properly when we email.
- Your email address — the only way we contact you.
- The area or areas of Sydney you would play in — the reason this whole exercise exists.
- How many players you would bring, and, on some forms, which nights suit you and roughly what standard you play at.
We do not ask for your phone number, your address, your date of birth, or any payment details. If a future form ever does, we will update this page before that form goes live.
3. How we collect it
Two ways, and it is worth knowing which is which:
- The form on this website. You type it in here and it comes to us.
- Meta instant forms. If you sign up through an ad on Facebook or Instagram, the form opens inside that app and Meta pre-fills your name and email from your profile. You submit it to Meta, and Meta passes it to us. Meta collects that information as well as sending it on, and Meta's own privacy policy governs what they do with it.
We also receive ordinary technical information when you visit this site — your IP address, browser and device type, and which pages you looked at — through our website host and analytics.
4. Why we use it
- To count how many people want to play in each area, so we know where to book courts.
- To email you when Baseline opens near you, with dates, times and pricing.
- To answer you if you get in touch.
- To understand which of our ads brought people in, in aggregate.
That is the whole list. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not give or rent it to anyone for their own marketing.
6. Overseas storage
Some of these providers store data outside Australia, most commonly in the United States. By registering, you agree to your information being stored and processed overseas by them. We take reasonable steps to use providers who protect it properly, but overseas privacy laws are not the same as Australia's, and we cannot promise they are equivalent.
7. Cookies and the Meta Pixel
This site uses cookies and similar technologies, including the Meta Pixel, to see which ads bring people here and to show relevant ads to people who have already visited. The Pixel does not capture what you type into a Meta instant form.
You can block cookies in your browser settings, and you can control how Meta uses your activity for advertising in your Meta ad preferences.
8. How long we keep it
- In Meta's systems: Meta holds instant form submissions for around 90 days, after which they are removed from Meta's lead centre. We copy them out before that.
- In ours: we keep your registration until either the league launches in your area and you have had a fair chance to join, or you ask us to delete it, or roughly two years pass with no league near you — whichever comes first.
If Baseline never launches, we delete the whole list and tell the people on it.
9. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Show you what we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your information entirely.
- Stop emailing you — every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us directly at any time.
Email basketball@baselineleague.org and we will respond within 30 days. There is no charge.
10. Security
We keep registrations in access-controlled accounts with reputable providers, and only our team can see them. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee against every possible breach — but the amount we hold about you is deliberately small, which is the best protection we can offer.
11. Age
Our ads are targeted at people aged 18 and over, and the registration form is intended for adults. If you believe someone under 18 has registered, email us and we will remove it.
12. Changes to this policy
As Baseline gets closer to launching, this policy will change — particularly the list of tools in section 5. The current version always lives at this address, with the date it was last updated at the top. If a change materially affects people already on the list, we will email them about it.
13. Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, email basketball@baselineleague.org and we will investigate and reply within 30 days.
If our answer does not satisfy you, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
